This comic comes from an old Happy Days episode, actually. Fonzi jumped over a shark on water skis. The episode was late in the show's run, and made people realize it was kinda going downhill. After that, "jumping the shark" became a euphamism for a series or show having reached its creative peak and starting the sad decay of has-beens. I only hope I haven't already managed that.
